in regal effect

Several designers such as John Galliano and Blumarine have responded quite creatively to the recent controversial announcement that the French government was considering a national ban on burkas. Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci paid homage to the Middle East for his latest Fall 2009 couture collection, with his own twist to the traditional Islamic garb. Jewel-encrusted accents, layered gold and spiked accessories were in abundance -- a stunning complement to the enthralling collection. Praises also for a backstage sign that reads: "No girls on the runway if they haven't eaten before." Very well done, Tisci!
