nicholas kirkwood a/w 2009 preview

A peek of what's in store from Nicholas Kirkwood's Autumn/Winter 2009 collection. Contrasting textures and monotones, sculptural heels and devilishly sexy.

streetstyle: grey gardens

Be inspired by the streets of Oslo. Streethearts has some amazing shots and is my new found love for streetstyle mixes. Hanneli Mustaparta is too cool for school in a white ACNE top paired with sweat shorts (love that ring!) while Esther layered on the lights with a well suited blazer by Tiger of Sweden and zippered pants by Mardou and Dean. These two darlings has won me over, they're proof that grey is the new black.

first-aid from heaven

You probably couldn't eat, move or barely breathe in it, but Hollywood's A-listers swears by it for an ultra svelte look that is guaranteed to make heads turn. For Resort 2010, the iconic bandage dresses from Herve Leger were played with modern minimalism and geometric patterns in predominantly black and white, including a new technique featuring delicate suspension of gemstones between the rayon/spandex bands. I'm loving the beaded nude and brights. Your picks?

the alpaca

Limited edition Karl Lagerfeld Steiff bears are now on sale from $1500 to just under a grand each at Neiman Marcus. Only 2,500 of these Lagerfeld mini-mes were made, with matching wardrobe down to the detail of Swarovski crystals on the bear's tie and belt. Adorable, no doubt but for $1000? Excessive. It better not utter "you're fat" while you're sleeping. You know how meanie Uncle Karl can be.

pretty young thing

Zippora Vermillion Rose Seven, 17, is said to be New Zealand's answer to Kate Moss that is also likened to hold the same quirky appeal as Chloe Sevigny. Sought after in Australia, she was featured alongside eldest brother Jasper in French Vogue, worked for See by Chloe and recently starred in a H&M campaign. Despite garnering juicy controversy over the racy editorial she did for Russh, her immense allure is unstoppable and it's not hard to see why.

almost dangerous

Fashion wunderkid Alexander Wang recently debuted his Fall 09 accessories collection that has created quite a buzz since the much-hyped $850 Coco Duffel bag was first seen on MK in February. It was love at first sight, it's still love at the hundreth and more with the unveiling of the full collection. Whether it's the clear heeled booties, textured crack leather bag, zippered backpack or heavy buckled high heel boots, take your pick and start saving.

from the red carpet to the high streets

Word is out that high street retailer H&M is collaborating with luxury shoe designer Jimmy Choo. The capsule line is set to hit the stores November 14th, a first accessories partnership for H&M. Expect glamorous and sophisticated array of bags, shoes and accessories for both women and men but wait, there's an even better reason to celebrate: the line will include Jimmy Choo's first clothing collection for women. Mark your calendars!

a midsummer night's dream

Son of a painter/flute player and traditional Balkan costume maker Marjan Petrovski is the creative genius behind Empire33. The label was realized a year upon waking from a dream of Miyamoto Musashi and General Custer dueling swords over a prized Gucci bag. One fascinating dream, I'll say. This Custer bag is made of Italian leather with American civil war sword handle made of hardwood with steel and handcrafted brass fittings. Brilliant!

when the clouds parted

Just returned from a buying trip. 4 days sans Internet. Woke up this morning feeling quite under the weather. Nonetheless, the 2009 CFDA Awards celebrated the best in American fashion on Monday night. A live fashion presentation of 60 models wearing Rodarte, Marc Jacobs and Narciso Rodriguez outside Alice Tully Hall makes for a striking beginning to the evening, with fashion darlings arrived in full swing and favorite designers leaving with top recognitions.

Womenswear Designer of The Year: Rodarte
Menswear Designer of The Year (tie): Italo Zuchelli for Calvin Klein & Scott Sternberg for Band of Outsiders
Accessory Designer of The Year: Proenza Schouler
Swarovski Award for Womenswear: Alexander Wang

Swarovski Award for Accessory Design: Justin Giunta for Subversive Jewelry

The ladies rocked in brights and metallics: Blake Lively in Michael Kors, Diane Kruger in Jason Wu with Kerry Washington in Doo.Ri, Kirsten Dunst in Rodarte, Daphne Guinness in Proenza Schouler, Ashley Olsen in The Row, Coco Rocha in Michael Kors, and Zoe Saldana in Calvin Klein.

i dream in rainbow colors

Been lusting over these stunning PS1s ever since it came out, but it got me dreaming again after stumbling upon random Mary Kate's photos carrying these darlings, not forgetting the recent hype on Proenza Schouler's Jack McCullough bloody nose incident with Kiefer Sutherland. Their new line of handbags are clean, understated and uber sleek. Available at Barneys New York ranging from $895 for a pochette to $14,400 for the large croc bag, which one do you fancy most?

carmen class

Currently on my wishlist: A fierce tuxedo blazer, a sexy romper and a gorgeous Tom Binns-like layered necklace.

blonde ambition

While Steven Meisel's decadent 80's party editorial and Emma Summerton's Neo Romantic blew us away, Vogue Italia continues its running streak this month with their innovative take on sixties fashion in "A Singular Style". Sessilee Lopez's blonde ambition was realized in a series of washed out color palate by Tom Munro. Stunning!

streetstyle: that added spunk

Milan & Sydney: If you're thinking of ways to wear the Stephen Sprouse leggings, this is one look you should draw inspiration from. Sharp silhouettes and luxe fur complements it quite nicely. Meanwhile, this exotic lass shows that you could still look fierce in a print maxi when paired with sexy tough shoes like the fringed Louboutins. Two favorite looks that screams "attitude"!

blissful dreams

Ahh, another love. Don't you wish you could just spend your sunny days sleeping in this beautiful piece of furniture that also floats on water? David Trubridge has created Float, a romantic, portable bed that is hand crafted from sustainable harvest, water resistant timber and acrylic fabric. Voted as 'Best Piece of Bedroom Furniture' in New Zealand's furniture design competition that was held in May 2009. Say goodbye to your sleeping disorders!

neo romantic

Shot by Emma Summerton for Vogue Italia June 2009, Imogen and Abbey Lee mesmerize as the neo romantics in the season's most alluring pieces. The skeleton jewelry and futuristic diamante shades are one of a kind!

neo-grungette

Kristen Stewart is seen sporting Rodarte's above-the-knee, footless leather gaiters on the set of an Allure photoshoot recently. I don't fancy Bella Swan so much but this vampire-loving woman right here is smoking hot with big hair, kohl-rimmed eyes and that smashing cyberpunk dress, also from Rodarte's Fall 09 collection. It's hard not to love her.

merci indeed

Started by the Cohen couple behind luxury children's clothing brand Bonpoint, Merci is a new design concept store located in the Marais district in Paris which opened early March this year. The luxury charity store offers carefully curated collection of fashion and interiors amongst other things with all profits going towards a women and children's charity in Madagascar, hence the name. Fill up own bottles with perfume from Annick Goutal, have a coffee in the used-book cafĂ©, or select among a quirky mix of high fashion (YSL, Stella McCartney and Isabel Marant) for some guilt-free shopping! A must 'do' when you're in Paris!

toga sparklers

If Helen of Troy were to hit the party circuit back in the day, I bet she'd rock these fabulous sequined gladiator sandals by All Black. These days however, you could pair them with everything from boyfriend jeans to ripped denim shorts. Love! Available at Oak for $168.

sailing stella

Little did we know that the lace jumpsuit Stella McCartney wore to the recent Met Gala (which she made just hours before the event) would be a part of her Resort 2010 collection, or Spring as she likes to call it. Divided into four themes: Tuxedo, Out of the Blue, Tropic of Flowers, and White Hot Desert Day, 41 out of the 56 ready-to-wear pieces are partially or 100% organic. Handsome Saville Row-sharp tuxedos and guipure lace pieces, nautically inspired stripes and checks, or the sequined floral jackets, the collection is just stunning and simply stellar.
