Designer and conceptual artist Tobias Wong was recently found dead in his Manhattan home at the age of 35 in an apparent suicide. He first attracted attention with his 2001 public debut of converting a Philippe Starck chair into a lamp (This Is A Lamp) for Kartell and continued to surprise with a range of provocative projects like his Killer Ring, with the stone set outwards primarily used to scratch graffiti; the Money Pad, a stack of 100-dollar bills bound with notepad glue; Karim Rashid's book I Want To Change The World cut into a gun shape presented as a critique of designer's pretensions on the post 9/11 world; gold-plated versions of McDonald's coffee stirrer as part of the Indulgence series. One of his most elaborate productions was The Wrong Store, in New York's Chelsea neighborhood. Wong organized a hoax-like exhibition (shop as gallery, gallery as shop) in 2007, stocked with an amazing array of products by artists and designers from the United States and Europe with a sign in the window that read, "Come In, We're Closed" when in fact, the store had never opened.

"As time went on his work became more and more ironic, sarcastic and pointed," said Paola Antonelli, senior curator in the Museum of Modern Art's Department of Architecture and Design. "He had an enfant terrible style of design that was very fresh in New York. Today you see all sorts of people doing conceptual design, but he was one of the first."

It has only been a little over a month since my last diving trip (the same time I got my diving license) but my tan is gone and I swear I'm having withdrawals by the day. The experience of being so deep underwater surrounded by gazillions of beautiful ocean life was surreal and remarkably serene although I must confess I get the jitters, at times. The only sounds you hear are your own deep breaths through the regulator. No sounds of heavy banter or your favorite tunes. Oh when will they make any sort of underwater entertainment? Can't wait for my next dive!

Stunned by this gorgeous beauty in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Former Bond girl Gemma Arterton plays Princess Tamina, who reluctantly joined forces with a rogue prince named Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) to safeguard an ancient dagger capable of releasing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world. Loved the movie, Gemma looked every bit a goddess in intricate costumes that were hand-embroidered with gold thread, and beautiful, glass hair beads. After the movie we couldn't stop talking about hair, as I'm tempted to braid it and dye my hair black, while my date blatantly hinting to grow his hair like Jake. Oh dear!

"For you, a thousand times over"

Someone significant said this once to me, but I never truly grasped the meaning until recently. These words resonated in my head like a heartbeat after watching The Kite Runner, a film adaptation of the novel by Khaled Hosseini. It tells a heartbreaking story, one of unrequited love and loyalty; the friendship between Amir, the son of a wealthy Afghan businessman, and Hassan, the son of his father's servant. The film makes you question yourself, the kind of person that you are, and if you would do anything for the other person, particularly the person that you love.

Life is a journey of self-discovery. It teaches and demands us to make choices, ones that change the course of our lives forever. God created us imperfect, and full of flaws but He created time nonetheless so there would be a place to bury the failures of the past, in search of a better self, a better future.

So to the person who once said those beautiful six words to me, thank you for your selfless, loving heart. I'll remember these words for long. Til the end of my days.

Born in Japan to an Italian father and a Japanese mother in 1977, his unique style is a result of his upbringing: internationally eclectic; modern and traditional; Eastern and European. Below is an excerpt of his interview with Alex Kazemi of Pop Addict:

Alex Kazemi: When and why did you decide you were going to be a stylist working in the fashion industry?

Nicola Formichetti: It was almost ten years ago, maybe. When I was 22. I sort of fell into it really. I was working in a shop called the Pineal eye, selling young designers. I was the shop assistant/buyer. I met Katy England and Alister Mackie who were the fashion directors of Dazed and Confused then, they asked me to work on small projects for the magazine. What began as a small monthly column grew into monthly projects. A few years later Jefferson Hack asked me to be the creative director of the magazine. Through the whole experience I started working for other magazines an pursuing other projects in fashion, creative consulting, opening a shop in Japan, etc.

Alex Kazemi: You work with Lady Gaga an awful lot. Tell us about your experience with her.

Nicola Formichetti: Well, its so much fun, working for her, for me, it's an extension of what I have been doing. Our work together is a pure collaboration between artists. The great thing about her is, she is able to bring one dimensional editorials in to reality. She gives purpose to fashion, she wears fashion, she lives fashion.

First look at Stella McCartney's limited edition costume jewelry line for Disney's Alice in Wonderland. Decorated with pearls and plexi charms (rabbits, Mad Hatter's topper, hearts and spades), her matching necklace and bracelet pieces are made of gold chains topped with Swarovski crystal accents which will retail for $395 and $425 respectively at Stella McCartney stores worldwide starting February.

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland is slated to hit the theaters March 5.

The mysterious designer may have left his fashion house in December after some 20 years creating influential avant-garde designs but Martin Margiela was very much involved with the creation of the label's first perfume, Untitled. The fragrance, a unisex scent with a strong presence of galbanum, and notes of bitter orange, incense, jasmine and cedar, is to be interpreted by the wearer as he or she feels fit. The bottle when empty, can be used as "a dress, a lamp or anything that departs from its initial use", according to MMM.
